Capitol Heights' Ever Anibal Aleman Ramos was working on I-70 west near Route 66 in Washington County shortly before 4:20 a.m. on Monday, June 13 when he was struck while working in a construction zone.
A GoFundMe page was launched by his wife, who remembered him as a hardworking man who yearned to give his family a good life.
"He was a very humble, hard-working man. affectionate, fighter and his greatest yearning was always wanting to give the best life to our family and watch their children grow up desire[sic]," writes Mirna Villanueva.
"We will always remember him as a good father, husband, son, brother and friend."
Ramos was pulling barrels from the roadway behind a crash attenuator truck when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that sped away from the scene, investigators said.
He was part of a road crew that was backing up in the left lane of eastbound I-70 and removing construction barrels from a previous roadway project.
Police said that the driver of the suspect hit-and-run vehicle pulled onto the right shoulder for a short time after striking Ramos, but soon left the scene. Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The suspect vehicle was described as being a gray or silver older-model pickup truck, potentially a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma.
